About Ron Micklin

|
His
first musical influences were those of his mother, which included, among
others, Hank Williams, and Elvis Presley. Ron comes from a musical family
which has included several big band musicians, a violinist, a guitarist,
and a grandmother who played clarinet in an all-girls big band. While earning
his bachelors degree, Ron studied music theory, musicology, and the viola.
Ron picked up his first guitar while in high school and ninety days later was playing in his first garage band. His musical vitae runs the gamut from garage bands, playing for not-quite-sober crowds in clubs, a fair bit of street singing, some studio recordings of original material, tenor and soloist for his church music department, to, at present, playing north Texas coffee houses. Reviewers have called Ron's voice "mesmerising " and "sweet," and his guitar work, "awesome..." and a 'perfect compliment' to his vocals. Josh Brown of Artistic Blends Coffeehouse and Theatre wrote that Ron is an "incredible guitarist and songwriter " who, " delivers a wonderful performance every time." A Scottish reviewer wrote that his lyrics are " especially engaging and well-written" and that his newest song, "Someone I Should Know? wouldn't be out of place on any of Dan Fogelberg's albums." |
